Another Speical Visitor

James and Fiona's Aunt Kim came to visit us and read us a story.  She read us the book Nubs the Dog.  It was a story about a Mutt, a Marine, and a Miracle.

After the story James and Fiona's Mom and Aunt Kim helped us make spider hats.

Thanks for coming to visit Aunt Kim!  We had a great time!

Celebration

Back on November 9th we had a fun afternoon of celebration out at the football field for meeting the standard of excellence.  We had a wonderful time!

The kids fought the wind while we ate lunch, but still enjoyed the picnic.

We started off our time of activities with trike races

and then moved on to the football toss.

We played with the parachute
and had an exciting game of kick-ball!
Stuck in the mud was the next stop

and then it was off to the sack races.

We finished our day with Duck-Duck-Goose
and Red Rover Red Rover!

What a fun day we had!

Does it Float or Sink?

We have been learning about and experimenting with things that float and sink.  We got out the modeling clay and thought we'd have some fun.  We found that a flat piece of clay sinks, however a curved piece of clay will float.  The kids each took a lump of clay and started working with it to create a boat.

Once we had the boats we put them in water and started adding little cubes to see whose boat would hold the most.

I believe the most a boat held was 18 cubes.
While a group was trying their boats the rest of us worked on word families

and Lego's!

Here is a little video clip of the boat experiment.
(I'm sorry it's sideways, it would not let me rotate it.)

Special Visitor

Mrs. Herrmann came to visit our classroom to help us use all the leaves we collected on our nature walk.  We had pressed the leaves so they would be flat.  She took each of the kids individually and arranged their leaves on wax paper.  The kids sprinkled small pieces of crayon shavings on and around the leaves.
She placed another piece of wax paper on top and ironed the two pieces together.

The end result was beautiful!  Stop by our classroom to see them hanging in the windows!!
