Safari

During letter Z,z week we studied zoo animals, their habitats, and what they eat.  We went on a "safari" hunting for some of the animals we had studied about.  We used our binoculars to find the animals and then graphed the animals we found. 

(I apologize for the pictures.  I forgot my camera and had to use my phone.  It didn't do so well with the fast movement of the kids:) )

The kids had a great time!  It was a fun way to incorporate math into science.

Money Money!

We have been working on counting money.  The other day I labeled some items that we have in the classroom and the kids counted out the correct change to "buy" an item.  They did an amazing job! 

Letter U,u Cooking Centers

For letter U,u we made United States Flags for snack.

Penny, Nickel, Dime

To help us tell the difference between pennies, nickels and dimes we headed down to the gym for a little game.  The kids were put into partners and one partner was given a bag of different coins.  A coin was taken out and the first child said the name.  The second child told how much the coin was worth and took that many steps.  Once the second child reached the finish line (we used some of the lines on the gym floor) the partners swiched places and played again.

We filled our jar of beads again!! 

This happened right before Christmas so we watched Rudolf and had popcorn and strawberry soda. 

The Tasty Gingerbread Man

We completed a fun graphing activity with little gingerbread men this week.  Each child received a paper like the one pictured below as well as a "gingerbread man".

We each took one bite out of our gingerbread man. 

Some of us took a bite out of his head, 

 his foot,

or his arm. 

After everyone had taken their bite we graphed how many kids had taken a bite out of his head, his foot, or his arm.

The finished graphed.  14 kids took a bit out of his head!  We had to add 4 more rectangles to the top or our graph. 

Then we got to eat the rest of our cookies!
